Terms
Last updated October 19, 2026.
These are the plain-language terms for using Yara Reads. By using the app you agree to them.
What this is
Yara Reads is a free app that helps new readers practise with stories written from the sounds they know. It's made by Eli Finer. It's meant to be used by children together with a parent or other adult.
Your account
- Accounts are for adults. Keep your sign-in to yourself.
- You're responsible for what's added to your account, including by agents you connect.
- Only add books you have the right to use. A book you type or scan in for your own child stays private to your account, but it's still your job to make sure you may use it.
- Don't use the app to harm others, to overload it, or to put anything unlawful or harmful in it. We can remove content or accounts that break these terms.
The stories, pictures and code
The stories and pictures that come with the app are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0: share and adapt them, and credit Yara Reads and the authors. The app's source code is MIT licensed. Both are on GitHub.
Books you add are yours. We use them only to show them to you.
No promises
The app is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. We try to keep it working, but it may change, break or go away. It's a reading aid, not a substitute for teaching or for a child's own progress, and we aren't responsible for losses that come from using it, to the extent the law allows.
Leaving
You can stop using the app at any time and delete your account in Grown-ups, under App. See the privacy policy for what's kept.
